Okay, so blogging strikes me as seriously narcissistic today, but that's just fine by me. 'Cause really, I find my life terribly important.

So here's what's going on. I had an audition today - a pretty nice little role on a new pilot. Major people behind the show, major CD, major network, etc. THANK YOU Mr. Manager for getting me a cool audition, hooray! So I get the sides and yup, I'm crying in an audition again. So I decide maybe I should get some audition coaching on this since I'm not feeling super-confident, could use another set of eyes, etc. So yesterday I go see Jim Gleason, who is WONDERFUL and super-helpful and I leave feeling like I know what I'm supposed to do and with the sense that it's not entirely impossible. YAY! But it's actually a lot of work and very tiring too. I pop out to do a little tutoring mid-afternoon, then go out to hang out with some of the COOLEST PEOPLE ON EARTH - friends from IFA at Second City.

Now, these are like the first people I met in LA and they're just as wonderful as I thought. We sit around and eat pizza and gossip and talk about relationships and acting and improv and have a great time - really a nice way to unwind and not think about the next day's audition.

Today was the audition, and though I rushed my prep at the top of the scene I got some GREAT feedback from the CD and I'm happy with what I did. And I ran into a friend at the audition and we're planning a big fun lunch with fun cool women soon. And then I had an awesome coffee break with another friend, then went to another friend's staged reading (with Marla Gibbs, woo!) in which ANOTHER couple friends were performing, so that was awesome too.

This is not a bad life.

YAY what a fun day! :)

Okay, so here's what's great (and not so great) about today:

1. BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA is elected president, with a VP I like, an AWESOMELY cool and adorable family, and did I mention BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA??? What a cool dude. I watched the inauguration. He made me want to. How awesome is that? AND I just got home, turned on my TV, saw him dancing at a cool party with his kick-ass wife and didn't have the urge to apologize to anyone for where I live!

(2. I had to proctor a practice SAT for almost 5 hours today - which is boring.)

3. I got a friend request from an old good friend on Facebook!

4. I got asked for an autographed photo by a complete stranger online - which is both creepy and cool.

5. I got CAST in the Writing Level 5 show at Second City! This is a lot of fun - there's a 5-level writing program culminating in a written sketch show performed by kick-ass people like myself. AND my friend Susan's in it too so we get to play together, yay! Should be an absolute blast, I'm really looking forward to it.

It's a pretty damned good day. AND it's still early!

Okay, so I had a GREAT New Year's Eve/New Year and I hope you did too. Since I know you're DYING to know what I did that was so special, I'll tell you.

I was in a bad mood all day on New Year's Eve. Just not happy. One of those days. But I had a couple parties to go to, little friendly affairs with dear friends, so I made those little cheese thingies that I always take to parties where you're supposed to take something and went out the door. Long story short, I ended up having a fantastic time playing Apples to Apples with super-cool people, watching the ball drop, then heading up to the rooftop of a 5-story old apartment building in Koreatown with a 270-degree view of the city.

The entire city was celebrating. We could see large fireworks displays in several directions - okay, we could see PARTS of large fireworks displays, at least. But all over town people were setting off their own fireworks, bottle rockets, firecrackers, even the random flare. Even with the fog you could see people celebrating the new year for miles - and it went on for at least half an hour or 45 minutes before we went back downstairs. You could just feel millions of people celebrating at once and I was so grateful to be in a city to experience that. I love Los Angeles, I truly do. It was an incredible feeling.

Hooray for good friends and a new year. And all y'all that I didn't get to celebrate with - I miss you guys.

Can't wait for 2009!

Had a few minutes waiting for some pizza rolls to finish crisping so I figured I'd blog a little.

So 2008 was a particularly bad year as far as actual events go - so we'll just skip the recap. It's been tough, but I'm also pretty darn happy overall, so let's just focus on that, eh?

Christmas was great, loved seeing my parents. It's nice to be back in my (WARM!) place again but I'm gonna miss them. Flight back was long and boring and today I have an awful headache but I'm really excited to get working on some projects with some friends - hung out with Aydrea the coolest writer chick ever last night and am super-motivated to work on a musical and a screenplay and a one-man-show and stuff - I won't say WRITE these things 'cause, you know, I don't want to write... I just have a couple projects that need... creating?

Of course, the first project is super-secret so I can't talk about that.

See, now this blog has nothing IN it. All the interesting projects I'm working on I don't want to talk about yet! Ummm... the pets are fine....

So I keep BEGINNING blog entries and then trashing them 'cause I get bored or decide that I'm boring. We'll see if this one gets finished.

I went to my first hockey game tonight! It was GREAT! What a fantastic sport! I'm going to have to go see another game, get a favorite team, etc. I can't see myself as a diehard fan per se, but it's definitely a fun way to spend an evening. And the Staples Center is fantastic! It wasn't crowded, they have everything from nachos to CPK to sushi, just a really good time. And nice people! And a FUN FUN FUN sport!

Went out afterwards to get some dessert for the birthday boy. I might just recommend NOT eating cream of mushroom soup after tiramisu though. I have a strong stomach overall, but not that strong.

Anyway, it was a really wonderful evening. Nice conversation with new people (new people! Wow! I'm still really shy with groups of new people, but I'm getting lots of practice and it's turning out not to be so bad!) and old friends and fun entertainment and NACHOS!

So what else - in acting news, it looks like I'll be doing a little medical industrial soon, which should be fun. And lucky me, I'm now in the Cricket Feet Showcase on November 5th and 6th! Details at www.cricketfeetshowcase.com. It's really going to be a great show, if you can make it please RSVP and come have a good time with us!

Off to take my antibiotics (which make my stomach queasy, yay) and go to bed. Thankfully I've had a pretty gentle schedule the past couple of days so I've been able to get some rest to try and shake off this bout of bronchitis or whatever. I'm so glad I didn't get sick enough to have to stay in bed and miss these fun events but I still plan on taking it easy for a few days and get HEALTHY. Or at least stop wheezing. That's the worst.

I'm now on the year-long waiting list for a plot at the local community garden.

Good thai food is still fantastic.

Friends are cool.

Tutoring is a bit of a challenge - high school kids and scheduling don't go together.

OH! And I'm going to be doing the Cricket Feet Showcase in November! One of the actresses had to drop out for personal reasons so now I get to do a scene with the FABULOUS Eitan Lowenstein and I'm super-excited. It's such a good time, Chil Kong is a fantastic director, such a nice group of people and a really funny scene - GREAT times! Think good "theatrical agent" vibes for me!

So we have wildfires here. And I can officially see one of them (the Marek fire, for those of you playing along) from my house. Okay, so I don't live in a house, but a small apartment building that greatly resembles a Motel 6 and from the walkway in front of my apartment, if I go over to the corner where my awesome Aussie neighbor David smokes and look north, I can see a bit of fire atop a mountain.

A wee bit of deja vu going on.

Anyway, despite the occasional wildfire or earthquake, you gotta love LA. I got thai food a mile from my house after 11pm for less than $10. Fantastic city.

In other news, my friend Cindy is coming to stay with me for a few days, hooray! There's only a couple problems with this. One, I have to work a bit while she's here. Two, and WAY more annoying - I have to clean. Sigh. I think I'll go to bed and read a book and take care of some more of it tomorrow....

Stupid.

I have one heck of a headache so I'm feeling really brain-dead. Enough so that I'm thinking of just going to bed, and it's only just past 9pm. Except I have laundry that needs to go into the dryer, so we all know I'll be up as late as usual.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!

Today I did some tutoring stuff and then dropped by the most fantastic place - a local community garden. Turns out they're at the same facility as a native plant garden and the local native plant society was putting on a plant sale. Sadly, I have no garden. Happily, they also had Asian-style chicken (their description, not mine), real lemonade, and homemade ginger snaps. That set me back a whopping $4, and I ate it while sitting at a picnic table in a garden while bird-watching. Fantastic. I'm going to try and get a plot in this community garden - it's big, beautiful, very peaceful, cheap, and convenient to my house - and here's the amazing part - run by the LA Dept of Parks and Rec. And people say there's nothing good about LA!

Then I went in search of boots. They didn't have them. The second store didn't have them either. I did buy a pair of casual-ish cute low heels at a third store, and then I went to Nordstrom's just to LOOK at bras, maybe pick up one.

Two bras and ONE HUNDRED THIRTY SOMETHING DOLLARS later I escaped and came home to nurse my headache. And I check my horoscope:

"You could be eager to spend a little money today, but you really should try not to spend anything more than you absolutely have to at this time."

Duh.

Tomorrow - Music Improv starts up again, hooray! I need to figure out how to kick-start my acting stuff. I'm spending too much energy on the tutoring, not enough on the audition-hunting. Hmmm. I'm going to an open call at Universal next week as well as an orientation for an on-camera class so that will help me feel a bit more on-the-ball but there's a lot more I need to be doing. I just have to decide WHAT.

You know when you get a new toy and you don't know how to do anything with it and you're a little afraid to push all the buttons, but one day you get fed up and you push the button and all your problems are solved?

I just figured out how to turn off the touchpad on my laptop and I'm SO THRILLED. I've been having issues accidentally deleting what I'd written, navigating away from long emails and losing everything I'd done so far, etc. Not fun. NO MORE!

So anyway, today was fun, just a whole odd mix of things. I had an audition for the new show Easy Money in the morning, then spent the ENTIRE afternoon at the mechanic's fixing things on my car. So Friday I find out that my taillight's burnt out, Saturday my check engine light comes on, and since my car hasn't had AC all summer and is due for an inspection next month (which it can't pass with the engine light on), I figured I should take it in. So I did. And they fixed everything, charged me a not-insignificant amount of money, fed me homemade Armenian food, introduced me to some of the canaries (there's 15 in there right now) and generally showed me a pretty darn good time for a day at the mechanic's. The evening was spent doing support stuff for tutoring (when they say a lesson report takes 15 minutes, they're USUALLY being optimistic), cooking, and goofing off online.

More about the audition - the role was for a spoiled, self-entitled rich girl who's kind of snotty, so that was fun. Required a lot of makeup and hair and some fake nails (partly suggested by the script, partly for my own process) and some prep (yes, I still wasn't word-perfect in the audition darn it - nerves!) but it went well - I had fun, I have no idea if it was too big or too fast or whatever, but I did it and we'll just see. I need more of those auditions! I was really excited to get into this office - I'd recently met the assistant in a workshop and I have no idea whether that played any factor in getting me the audition, but I think my manager worked hard to get me in there too so hey, it all came together! Really pleasant office too - it's in a small house and it really made me realize how much I'd like to have my own little craftsman someday soon - just such a neat feel to the space. And SUPER-nice CD!

Oh! Other things going on lately - my music improv class/group Improperetta is getting REALLY good! Sure we've got a lot to learn still, but people have given us some serious compliments lately, and they've probably been deserved. People have enjoyed it more than seriously mega-professional theater productions in town as well as saying they'd happily pay a decent chunk of money to see us - which is nice to hear when you're FREE. So I'm sick. And I don't like it. I woke up sick yesterday and I'm still sick today. I've not heard anything about the commercial I'm on avail for - it shoots this coming weekend so I would've GUESSED I would've heard by now if I'd gotten it, I'll see if I can find out anything else tomorrow. Who knows.

Not a lot to report really. I spent all day today lying around in bed so that doesn't make much news. My new headshots should be ready for me to pick up at ISGO so that'll be fun - mailings and dropoffs galore! Yay!

Okay, so blogging obviously hasn't been on my radar lately.

What has? I've been tutoring (which is going great with a couple exceptions), doing classes at Second City (of course), and doing a few auditions here and there, hooray! It's been a slow summer so it's been nice to have a couple commercial auditions pop up in the last couple weeks. Especially since I have a callback for one today. YAY!

Also, I just found out that a film I'm in, Broken Windows, is going to be premiering at the San Diego Film Festival on September 26th! Hooray!

So my heart's not in the blogging thing, I've got too many distractions and obligations and a cat trying to lie on my hands so I'm going to keep this short. I'll try and get back into the swing of things soon.

Well, GOSH! I'm just tired. I know it's been forever since I've blogged, sorry. I've been running around from one event to another, tutoring, and coughing up a lung - ended up with a touch of bronchitis or similar so I've been taking antibiotics, sleeping, and using an inhaler. Not in that order - the inhaler gets me a little wired, which is why I'm blogging at 2am. I need some rest though so this isn't going to be long.

Music improv - good. Friends - good. BBQ for friend going away on a boat for 5 months - good and sad. Premieres - VERY good. Bronchitis - bad. Auditions - slow, but I have one coming up, so yay! Tutoring - good but hard and a bit stressful. Other film/TV projects in the works - good.

That's it, that's all I've got. I'm going to bed. Hopefully there will be more exciting news next time.

So I'm feeling a wee bit better now, thank you very much. I didn't get as much sleep as I'd have liked last night so I spent a lot of the day exhausted. So I spent a lot of it dozing in bed. But I had the FABULOUS opportunity to help shoot some very funny webisodes this evening, and that was so much fun that I feel a million times better now. I have to wonder sometimes how much of my mood is dependent upon keeping busy, especially with things that I find fulfilling. I suspect it's huge for me. Okay, I KNOW it's huge for me, but I still forget sometimes.

I need to have people over so I force myself to clean my apartment. It's gotten pretty darned messy.

Tomorrow's fun: I get my teeth cleaned and may go see an improv show in the evening. Should leave me some time to work on my tutoring training stuff - gotta be solid by Friday. Eep.

Mom, this is your warning - you will NOT like this post. It's my blog, my personal expression, and I'm not entertaining arguments about language. You won't like the subject matter at all either. Love you, want you to be forewarned if you choose to read it.

FUCK YOU to all you goddamned asshole pet owners out there. You people who let your dogs run free to get hit by a car (wanna know how long she cried? It was LONG. Like 10 seconds of a horrible squeal and screaming in pain - I think maybe she got dragged?) in the middle of the night outside MY apartment. So I (and my fabulous neighbor Chad) ran outside, found her, and took turns running back inside to get stuff. Like a leash to catch her (because she's skittish and wouldn't come near me the past several nights I've seen her outside while walking Teddy) and a cell phone (to call animal control). Even though she's skittish, it was pretty easy to catch her, that broken leg or hip and all. So she cowered in the gutter while strange people talked to her and pet her and wrapped a leash around her neck and waited for animal control to come. Sweet dog, considering how frightened she must have been. If it's just a simple clean break she'll get the vet care she needs and wait for someone to claim her. If you don't figure out she's missing, maybe she'll be adopted, since the shelter just got their numbers back down to manageable levels last week. Of course, if it's a bad break or her back or something, she'll be put to sleep.

Oh, we'd have called you first if you'd had a collar on her. Or a microchip. Or something useful.

Go ahead, put up the "LOST DOG" posters. I'm dying to fill you in.

Asshole.
