It's hot again.
97 degrees is hot. It's hotter than it used to be. When I had central air and lived near the coast where it didn't GET that hot, it wasn't all that hot. Now that I live in the valley with a little wall unit and unknown power bills that only come every other month and my AC is out in my car, 97 is way too damned hot.
But I shouldn't complain. What I SHOULD do is blog. Since my last entry a lot's happened. Mr. Motorcycle Crash is fine (better than fine, he got hired to improvise on a cruise ship starting in September!) and couldn't keep his butt sitting in a chair through our music improv class or our show - which was absolutely fabulous, thank you for asking. We changed the format to make him a narrator and it was really fun, lots of gift-giving, butt-saving, etc that way. I think we need to start creating our own forms for improvised musicals - our group has some great ideas.
ANYWAY, if you want to see us sing and dance by the seat of our pants (how cheesy was THAT?) - we have a show Sunday at 3:30pm! And we're FREE!
What else - well, I had an audition, it went okay but it was for a GREAT role and I enjoyed working on it for the audition. I have another audition tomorrow that should be pretty straightforward. Went to see the InterACT theater company's fundraiser (ok so I was a volunteer and saw it for free) and they're a really talented group. Also got to see some seriously famous actors in the crowd which was fun and hang out with some really neat people so overall that was a good time. I realized I've learned a lot about volunteering over the years, which was a bit of a surprise. It's amazing the skills you pick up without meaning to. Also drove down to San Diego to see Cygnet Theatre's production of A Number by Caryl Churchill - SUPER show. My acting teacher Fran Gercke was in it and he's just soooo good. Really was a treat to see him again, also ran into an old classmate so that was fun.
One of my fish died.
He wasn't quite right for a while and I wasn't sure if it was genetic or parasitic or what - but I feel bad for not treating what it could have been sooner.
Poor little guy.
On a cheerier note, it looks like I got a job.
From a fabulous fellow actor's recommendation I went and interviewed at a Test Prep company to work as a tutor. I start training in a week or so - should be a lot of fun. I've got to review the SATs, it's been a really, really, REALLY long time! I admit I'm nervous about tutoring, but I like the age group and I like standardized tests and I think it'll be pretty gratifying to help kids get into college, you know? I had to do a mock tutoring session - I taught the interviewer how to pick a lock.
So I'm looking forward to it, though part of me feels disappointed that I had to find a non-acting job in the first place. Still, if I gotta do it, this looks like a fun way TO do it, so I'll just decide to look forward to it and work my butt off in actorland too!
BTW - I love Southern California.
