Failure to Launch
So okay, so I LOVED the movie Space Camp growing up, and I ended up living NEAR Space Camp after college, and I had a father who encouraged me to sleep outside and stare up at the sky. Then I moved out here and saw an evening rocket launch up in the sky one night, and that was just freakin' cool.
So then I find out they're launching a missile into the Pacific - an ICBM, really. Which is just too cool, 'cause I ALSO loved the movie Wargames.
I guess I never knew that people actually launched these huge expensive things for test purposes, and so I got all excited that I could see another missile launch, etc.
Anyway, long story short - there was supposed to be a launch last night and there wasn't and I stayed up really late and I'm bummed. I guess they're rescheduling it - sigh. I will say that the Ocean Beach Pier is a very peaceful place at 3am. I may have to go out there in the middle of the night more often.
I've spent today being a total slob and cooking. I made undercooked banana bread (it LOOKED done!), chicken with roasted garlic and tomatoes and balsamic vinegar and basil for lunch (doesn't that sound good? It was ehn...) and hamburger vegetable soup for dinner (okay). I also ate the leftover brie and roasted garlic from last night - which was fabulous, really. The sudden cooking spree is inspired mostly by Barbara Kingsolver's book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle which is great so far but I'm waiting to finish it before blogging about it - all I'll say for now is it's the best book ever and feeds my rants and inspires me to ACT on my rants and I'm planning on buying copies for almost everyone I know.
Didn't get anything useful done though, which is fine by me.
Tomorrow I have a haircut/color, which is so boring. I love the people there, but I don't have patience for all that fussing. I may go fishing. We'll see.
This weekend is BUSY - classes, an improv show, probably going to see more improv shows, might go back up for more classes on Monday, etc.... Levels 4 and 5 of the Second City Conservatory program really are more time-intensive than you'd expect, and once you start seeing other improv shows, it's easy to get hooked... I'm glad it's so much fun 'cause otherwise it would be exhausting.
Oh my god - I just checked Vandenberg's website - the missile launch has been rescheduled for early Thursday morning. I'm so tired. Who's with me?
