FISHIES!!!
Oh my god, I've been such a slacker. It's been over a week since I've blogged, and there are some emails I must return and haven't, etc.... But hey, I'm slowly gonna catch up. Right?
Okay, so I helped with the auditions for Bonnie's showcase last week, and that was a lot of fun and craziness.
The auditioners were doing a variety of things - monologues, prepared scenes, cold reads with a reader, cold reads with another lonely auditioner, etc - which meant that the pace of getting people in and out varied GREATLY. But really great people showed up, nice easygoing types, so it was nice to meet some more cool actors.
I saw Crimes of the Heart on Friday and boy howdy was it good. I'm always astounded how bad a playreader I am. I miss so much when I read a play - and I was one of those kids in school that was SO GOOD at literature... it's a little embarrassing.
Anyway, this production found more comedy in that script than any other I've seen (not that I've seen that many) and it still had me crying a little at the same time. It wasn't one of those "I cried a little then I laughed a little" plays - it was one where if I was doing anything, it was both at the same time, which was kinda neat.
Really good actresses in the leads, really good supporting actors, really good direction, etc...
Yesterday was busy - went to a production meeting for my friend Cindy's first short film.
I'm going to be handling props/set dressing, which is great 'cause I've never done that and I'm a little nervous about the set dressing part.
Thankfully, there's extremely little required of me by this script, so it's a great one to do first!
After the meeting I met someone from my acting class to work on a scene, got to meet her super-cool 12.5 year old german shepherd.
I have such a weakness for those dogs...
Oh, and we had a great time chatting, and we actually got to work on the script some. We met in Del Mar - I need to spend more time poking around that town full of rich people (ew, gross - rich people!) and neat little restaurants and shoppes and fake British pubs that advertise Americana cuisine on the side - you know, all those cool things that feed off the rich people I just slandered.
But MOST EXCITING OF ALL - Yesterday evening we FINALLY BOUGHT FISHIES!!!!
We got 6 gold barbs (they look like yellow goldfish with black speckles on the side) and 4 platies of different colors - and they're all SO CUTE. Oh, we also bought a small bunch of plants, which means we're also the owners of at least 5 or 6 pond snails, which will probably soon be HUNDREDS of snails, so I think I may have to go buy some yoyo loaches (little black and white fish with yoyo written on the side... seriously) to eat them.
I'll try not to think about it too much - the snails are kinda cute, really. Anyway, the fish are really cute, they were a little nervous last night but we gave the platies just a couple flakes of food and they ate them right up, so they'll be fine. No floaters this morning, thank god. It's been interesting to watch - some of the lighter-colored platies (and the others occasionally too) school/hang out with the gold barbs, which is nice - they seem to like each other.
I never thought about fish in the wild hanging out with other fish not of their own species. Terry tried to point out that we saw different fish together snorkelling, but still it seemed more like they were just near each other because they shared a common habitat. In my tank I see fish choosing to swim away from their own little group of their own species to follow a completely different type of fish over to the other side of the tank for a bit, etc... it's neat! Fishy friends!
This evening is the fish society's auction. God only knows what we'll come home with - hopefully some really nice plants. Our tank looks SO EMPTY now. It's amazing how much smaller the fish look at home in our larger tank. I want to be careful not to buy too many plants (they grow) or fish (they grow too)... thankfully Terry will be there.

You saw fish together snorkling? Why do fish need to snorkle?
