LA is FUN!

Okay, so I don't like the driving, but man oh man do I love the stuff I do up in LA.   Tuesday was just so much fun - went to the CBS Diversity Showcase with Bonnie, which was just AMAZING.  Many many many sketch comedy scenes tightly woven into a great 40-minute show and phenomenal talent.  Ever see a one-woman Wizard of Oz?  It rocks.  Grace Jones auditioning for Grease?  No?  How about Mike Tyson auditioning for Annie?   One of my favorites was the Bollywood pitch for a new TV show about a tsunami - including a musical number.  Very smart people wrote and performed in that showcase.  Really just great.  And FUN!  And I met actors and CDs and just was intimidated all to hell but in a good way.   Good times.   After that was a fabulous lunch, followed by a fun audition and some more fabulous wine and dinner and conversation.  Then came the SAG CAP orientation where Bonnie was speaking - Hooray for the SAG Foundation, and YAY to a CD who's a GREAT public speaker - friendly, funny, smart... she's got it going on!  The completely adorable Jonathan Slavin was there too, dispensing humorous nuggets of acting wisdom - they were a great pair.  And all we interns had to do was sit in our reserved front-row seats and carry out a few headshots and biz cards afterwards!

And THEN - THEN I went to Inglewood (apologies to anyone who lives there, but it's just NOT the best part of LA) for one reason - WING STOP!  This fabulous chain out of Texas has a few branches in California - they had one in Vista which closed, sadly, so now the closest one to our house is 1.5 hours away - so having some wings was just a great cap to the evening.   Slept at LAX (Westin's Heavenly Bed is fabulous fabulous fabulous), got up the next morning and went to intern for Bonnie again!   Screwed up some headshot filing, worked on fixing that, then headed off to improv class.  Great class.  Not the most FUN class this time, but one of those "this is good for us" classes.  Those really do make me happy because I really feel like I'm getting some good training and that my skills will really improve from them...

So, good stuff this week so far!  Still fighting a little actor funk 'cause it's been slow audition-wise, but I've been getting some really great inspiration, different points of view, etc - and that's really important long-term.  Got lots of little things to attend to today - still need to do those toenails.  Looks like I CAN be more proactive after all!
