Hangin' with my new best buds...
So me, Guillermo, Florian and Clint hung out and shot the shit today for a while, just, you know, talkin' 'bout some cool films, the function of film in society, workin' with new filmmakers, financing, etc - you know, just hangin'. 'S'cool. The suits got us some grub, but y'know, I had me some Krispy Kremes beforehand so I was just chillin'. Like I said, 's'cool.
(Translated: went to a FREE roundtable event with the directors of the nominees in the Foreign Film category of the Golden Globes - Mel didn't show but they knew that, but my best buddy Pedro was sick and couldn't make it - sent a really nice note though. Shame, I'd have liked to have seen him - anyway, I sat in the Egyptian (really pretty place) with 600 other people and watched cool people talk about cool films for a couple hours - a neat discussion, really, since all three of their films (Pan's Labyrinth, Letters from Iwo Jima and The Lives of Others) address some aspects of war and its effects. And seriously - I've not seen any of the films nominated in this category but they all look AMAZING from the trailers they showed today - AMAZING. SERIOUSLY AMAZING. Chills, tears, etc - from 30 second trailers. Yup. Gotta see 'em. These are SO not the foreign films we had to watch in French class... although to be fair, I kinda liked them too.
)
After that, ran into a new acquaintance from Actorsite who'd tried to attend the event, I wish she'd made it in but it was packed.
It was nice to talk to her though - she's nice, I hope to see more of her!
And then I went off and had a consultation with the amazing Stephon Fuller who is every bit as neat (and perhaps even nicer) than you'd think from reading his fabulous blog.
Got some great great feedback, ideas, encouragement, inspiration, etc.
Seriously - LA is filled with nice people. I had great chats with the people in line for this event, the people I sat next to, the people in the parking lot afterwards, the people I've met just in the last week - I've run into some not-so-nice people too, but I think part of having fun and enjoying other people is just in the trying. Heck, maybe I'm just surprised because I tend to be ANTI-social - when I actually chill out and talk to people I don't know, I'm shocked that it can be fun.
WHEEEEEEE!
