My dialect!

You'll note I didn't say accent, 'cause, well, I'm a snob now about such things.   After living in Washington, Hawaii, Maryland (mostly), Pennsylvania, Alabama, Texas, and now Southern California, my dialect quiz (at http://www.gotoquiz.com/results/what_american_accent_do_you_have) has pronounced me...

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Philadelphia

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

DUDE??? Philly? I didn't pick up THAT much Philadelphian from Bryn Mawr, I assure you! But I had a tough time with that quiz. Some of those words sound different in different sentences - and I flip-flop on some words, like "horrible". But PHILLY? I guess it's close to Baltimore, which is close to Annapolis, which is where I grew up, but I never ever ever thought I sounded like someone from Philly! (Notice the large percentage of Southern in there too... whoa. Scary.) Wow.
