EVERYONE loves me!
So I got a call this afternoon from the casting office of the spot I didn't get, saying that the director liked me and though they've already cast the principals, would I be interested in working background?
I declined. I would've said yes, but I explained about my surgery and how I need to keep that appointment I think.
But it's funny, this isn't the first time I've been asked to do background work on cool projects and had to decline because of schedule - and I'm sure people are approached about working background all the time for projects they don't book, but I find it interesting and I choose to take it as a compliment. Hey, at least they didn't say "ugh, I don't want her stinking up my shoot!"
Hey.... I think on my size card where it asked about "willing to do bg" I said "not this time
" I had forgotten that. I guess they had too.
Oh well. I hate not booking something, but I am looking forward to breathing. I hope this surgery helps. I'll be really pissed if it doesn't.

Not to stir the pot...
But was this a SAG commercial? B/c, if so, working background is considered principal for becoming SAG-eligible (so you should always say yes to doing commercial BG if it's a SAG shoot).
Of course, I'm assuming NO... it was n/u, and that's why you were cool w/ turning it down... but I just had to check.
Glad everybody loves you! I'll be able to say, "I knew her when." Heeeee!
Have a great weekend!

What? What???? What is this fabulousness that I've never heard of before? Do you mean working BG on a SAG commercial is a way to get one of three voucher thingies as it would be on an episodic or film, or is this something extra-special that I've never heard of before???
And no, it was a non-union episodic/reality-with-actors/internet spot for a Budweiser-sponsored website - how's THAT for hard-to-categorize???

Ask Keith.
My understanding was that all SAG commercial work (even BG) is considered principal (b/c it's a commercial) and that means SAG pay/SAG membership qualification. Keith's now telling me it's a voucher thing, but I don't recall that being the case with commercials.
Either way, YES, if it's a SAG commercial, you always want to check that you'll do BG, b/c it's either a voucher or a SAG card (but, again, ask Keith... he's talking about stuff that may be more updated than when I was doing commercials).

Hey! Thanks for the link - been lying around slacking off all day, so it was nice to get the short version on relevant stuff I've been missing!
Feeling shockingly good (if you didn't get that from the fact that I'm on the computer). My last painkiller was the percoset they gave me at the hospital at 12:30. Two weeks MY ASS, wimp-boys!!! Thanks for asking, it gives me a chance to brag.
(oh, and yes, I'm knocking on wood all over the place.
